How many gallons of gas needed to drive 2000 miles?

To drive 2000 miles with 30 mpg (miles per gallon) consumption you will burn 66.67 gallons of gas

We provided this result for default fuel consumption of 30 MPG, which is common for cars like
2020 Toyota Camry AWD LE/SE 2.5 L, 4 cyl, Automatic (S8)
or 2020 Honda Accord 1.5 L, 4 cyl, Automatic (AV-S7)

How to convert 2000 miles to gallons:

Please note that above results are approximate, because it’s hard to predict what would be your vehicle’s real consumption value. It will depend on many side factors like:

  • Are you driving in city or on highway
  • What is a terrain? Is it flat of hilly?
  • How many idle stops are you making?
  • What is the weather? Are you driving in winter or summer?
  • Are you using air conditioner?
  • What engine does your car have? Below is a table with some consumption benchmarks. If you’re not sure on your vehicle consumption. Click the button with value in the table to set it into calculator:

2021 Toyota Camry Hybrid SE/XLE/XSE 2.5 L, 4 cyl, Automatic (AV-S6)
2021 Ford F150 Pickup 4WD 3.5 L, 6 cyl, Automatic (S10), Turbo
2021 Toyota RAV4 4 cyl, 2.5 L, Automatic (S8)
2020 Honda Accord 2.0 L, 4 cyl, Automatic (S10), Turbo

The logic in numbers is very simple:

MPG consumption value literally means how many miles you can drive on one gallon. So dividing the distance by number of miles per one gallon will give you amount of gallons. For our case:

2000 / 30 = 66.67 gallons

You can also think about it as proportion: on one gallon, I can drive 15 miles. Then On X gallons I will drive 500 miles. Proportion looks like:

1 gallon - 30 miles
X gallons - 2000 miles

Then,

X = 1 gallon * 2000miles / 30miles
X = 66.67 gallons
